Maker Profile: 13-year-old Marisa van der Horst of Fizz Bath and Beauty

If you're going to become cardiothoracic surgeon you gotta start somewhere. For this 13-year-old, that somewhere is bath bombs. Meet Marisa van der Horst of Fizz Bath and Beauty.

I am Marisa van der Horst and I am 13 years old. I make all natural bath and beauty products.

2. What inspired you to take part in a market like Refresh Kids?

I am new to Squamish and I would really like to meet some other Makers my age. I think it will be great to meet some of the other people participating in the Refresh Market, as well as some of the people that come by to shop.

3. Where do you get your inspiration?

I absolutely love Pinterest! I get a lot of inspiration from it. I have modified recipes from it and gotten some inspiration for photos for my products.

4. Are there people in your family who have inspired or supported you along the way?

My mother has supported me along the way. She offers her time, help and finance to me.

5. Big plans for the future?

I hope to continue my business throughout my teens, but look into a different career path when it comes time. When I am older, I would like to go to medical school and become a cardiothoracic surgeon.

I get my inspiration from many different things. One which includes Food Network! I love watching their shows and seeing all the kinds of cakes people make and how they decorate their baked goods really inspires me to bake.

Yes, Definitely. My mom is a big cook and baker and she really supports my baking passion.

Big plans for the future?

I am thinking of going to culinary school to hopefully maybe open a storefront but I don't know for sure yet. (I’m only twelve so I have a bit of time to figure it out.)
